Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort Illuminates the Season with the Segara Gunung Christmas Tree Collaboration

Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort unveils its annual Christmas Lighting Ceremony, celebrating a creative union between Balinese artistry and French elegance through the debut Segara Gunung Christmas tree.

Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort introduced a striking new artistic collaboration during its annual Christmas Lighting Ceremony at the Rotunda Lobby. The event marked the resort’s first partnership with Denpasar born artist Marmar Herayukti, who created a Christmas tree inspired by the Balinese philosophical concept of Segara Gunung, representing the harmony between sea and mountain. Complementing the installation, Ida Bagus Eka Arista, known as Gus Eka, and his performing arts group, Naluri Manca, presented a visual interpretation that brought the philosophy to life.

Marmar Herayukti shared that the Segara Gunung concept, expressed through the form of a Christmas tree, reflects a deeper appreciation for nature, gratitude, and the universal story of humanity’s connection to creation. He emphasized that although the collaboration blends two distinct cultural worlds, the narrative ultimately highlights shared values and spiritual resonance.

Gus Eka, founder of Naluri Manca, echoed this sentiment, noting that their performance serves as more than entertainment. It acts as a literary guided expression that embodies the principle of think locally, act globally, and showcases how local artistry can evolve into universal storytelling through collaboration.

Guests were welcomed with hors d’oeuvres before the ceremony began with remarks from General Manager Jean Pierre Joncas. The evening continued with a ten minute performance by Naluri Manca before culminating in the ceremonial lighting led by Marmar Herayukti and Jean Pierre Joncas, illuminating the Rotunda Lobby with a vibrant festive glow.

Reflecting on the collaboration, Jean Pierre Joncas expressed deep admiration for local artistry and the unique alignment between the Segara Gunung concept and the resort’s festive vision. He shared that the fusion of Balinese culture with Sofitel’s signature French allure is beautifully embodied in this year’s installation, reinforcing the resort’s dedication to cultural storytelling and artistic excellence.
