Gran Meliá Jakarta Marks 30 Years with a Record-Breaking Rendang Wellington

A 31.5-meter culinary milestone brings together Indonesian heritage, international gastronomy, and social impact in celebration of the hotel’s three-decade journey.

Gran Meliá Jakarta celebrated its 30th anniversary with a milestone that was both grand and deeply rooted in Indonesian identity. The five-star hotel officially earned a Museum Rekor Dunia Indonesia (MURI) recognition for presenting a spectacular Beef Rendang Wellington measuring 31.5 meters, created as a tribute to three decades of hospitality, creativity, and cultural appreciation.

Held at the Lobby Lounge of Gran Meliá Jakarta, the celebration welcomed distinguished guests, business partners, media representatives, and key figures from the hospitality industry. At the heart of the event was the unveiling of the Beef Rendang Wellington, a bold culinary creation that brought together the richness of Indonesia’s iconic rendang with the refined technique of the classic Beef Wellington.

Led by Executive Chef David Marteau and his culinary team, the creation was designed not only as a record-setting dish, but also as a meaningful symbol of Gran Meliá Jakarta’s journey. The fusion of local flavor and global gastronomy reflected the hotel’s long-standing commitment to innovation while honoring the cultural heritage of its home city.

“Reaching our 30th anniversary is a significant milestone for Gran Meliá Jakarta. This achievement reflects the dedication of our team, the trust of our guests, and the strong support of our partners throughout the years,” said Jeronimo Molina, General Manager of Gran Meliá Jakarta. “Through this MURI record achievement, we wanted to create something memorable that celebrates Indonesian culinary heritage while showcasing the creativity and innovation that define our hotel.”

Beyond the culinary spectacle, the celebration also carried a wider purpose through Gran Meliá Jakarta’s collaboration with Food Cycle Indonesia. The non-profit organization focuses on reducing food waste and addressing food insecurity by redistributing surplus food to communities in need. Through this partnership, the anniversary celebration extended its impact beyond the hotel, reinforcing a shared commitment to sustainability, responsible consumption, and community welfare.

The event continued with the official presentation of the MURI Record certificate by Osmar Semesta Susilo, Vice Director of MURI, followed by a ceremonial cutting and tasting session of the record-breaking Beef Rendang Wellington. Guests were then invited to enjoy the creation firsthand, marking the moment as both a culinary achievement and a celebration of togetherness.

As Gran Meliá Jakarta enters its next chapter, the hotel continues to embody Gran Meliá’s philosophy of “A Life Well Lived.” With its blend of Spanish heritage, refined hospitality, and meaningful guest experiences, the hotel remains a landmark in Jakarta’s prestigious Kuningan district, home to 334 rooms and suites, RedLevel Lounge, YHI Spa, and celebrated dining destinations including ERRE & Urrechu Jakarta, Tien Chao, Café Gran Via, Yoshi Izakaya, Lobby Lounge, Chillin Pool Bar, and El Bombón patisserie.
