The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali Appoints Arun Kumar as General Manager
The seasoned hospitality leader returns to Indonesia to helm one of Bali’s most established beachfront resorts, while taking on wider responsibility for Marriott International’s Premium & Select portfolio across the island.
A new chapter begins at The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali with the appointment of Arun Kumar as General Manager of The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali and Bali International Convention Centre (BICC).
Alongside his leadership of the Nusa Dua resort complex, Kumar has also been appointed Area General Manager – Bali (Premium & Select Properties) for Marriott International, placing him at the helm of a portfolio encompassing 21 Premium and Select hotels and resorts across Bali.
The appointment marks a return to Indonesia for the hospitality veteran, whose career spans more than three decades across Asia, the Caribbean, and the United States.
Most recently serving as Market Vice President – North India, Nepal and Bhutan, Kumar was responsible for the performance and strategic growth of 60 Marriott International hotels across the region. His remit covered financial performance, commercial strategy, owner relations, operational excellence, and brand execution across one of Marriott International’s significant regional portfolios.
A Familiar Return to Indonesia
Indonesia is familiar territory for Kumar. Earlier in his career, he served as General Manager of The Westin Jakarta, where he led the opening of Indonesia’s tallest hotel and helped establish the property within Jakarta’s luxury hospitality landscape.
He later took on the role of Managing Director for The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta, Mega Kuningan and JW Marriott Jakarta, guiding both properties through the challenges of the global pandemic while maintaining their premium positioning, strengthening guest confidence, and navigating an unprecedented shift in the hospitality industry.
His international experience extends beyond Asia. In the Caribbean, Kumar led major operational transformation initiatives including a US$50 million renovation of Frenchman’s Reef & Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort in St. Thomas, adding large-scale resort operations and asset enhancement to an already extensive leadership portfolio.
Leading Westin Nusa Dua Into Its Next Chapter
At The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali, Kumar steps into the leadership of a destination that combines beachfront hospitality, wellness, leisure, weddings, and large-scale meetings and events.
The resort features 432 guestrooms, suites, and family suites, together with the adjoining Bali International Convention Centre, which accommodates events of up to 10,000 delegates.
Under Kumar’s leadership, the resort will continue strengthening its position through elevated guest experiences spanning accommodation, dining, meetings and events, destination weddings, family travel, wellness, and sustainability.
Wellbeing will remain central to that evolution.
Guided by Westin’s established philosophy around sleeping well, eating well, moving well, and traveling with greater balance, the resort continues to develop experiences designed around physical and emotional renewal.
Its wellness offering currently includes WestinWORKOUT® Fitness Studio, open-air beach workouts, a Reformer Pilates Studio, Spin Studio, Hot Yoga Sanctuary, an oceanfront Ice Bath experience, and the award-winning Heavenly Spa by WestinTM.
Seven restaurants and bars complement the resort experience, while beachfront venues, indoor event spaces, and dedicated family facilities reinforce its appeal across both leisure and business travel.
Leadership Through People and Purpose
For Kumar, the appointment represents more than a return to Indonesia. It is an opportunity to shape the next phase of a resort with an established place within Bali’s hospitality landscape.
“It is a privilege to join The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali, a resort known for wellness, heartfelt hospitality, and exceptional guest experiences,” Kumar shared.
He also highlighted the changing expectations of modern travelers, noting the growing importance of experiences that encourage connection, wellbeing, and lasting memories.
Together with the resort’s associates, Kumar intends to build on The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali’s existing legacy while continuing to evolve its approach for a new generation of travelers.
Three Decades of Hospitality Leadership
Kumar’s career has included leadership positions across Marriott International, Hyatt Hotels, and Accor Hotels, with experience spanning India, Indonesia, the United States, the Caribbean, and Marriott International’s regional operations.
His work has also earned multiple recognitions within Marriott International, including General Manager of the Year – Asia Pacific in 2019, General Manager – Sales Leadership in 2019, General Manager – Leadership Excellence in 2018, Hotel Opening General Manager of the Year in 2017, and Operations Leader of the Year – Asia Pacific in 2009.
Across each chapter, his leadership has centered on operational excellence, commercial performance, innovation, and people development.
Now, those decades of international experience return to Bali as Kumar takes responsibility for both one of Nusa Dua’s landmark resort complexes and a broader portfolio of Marriott International properties across the island.
For The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali, the appointment signals an experienced hand at the helm—and the beginning of its next chapter in wellness-led beachfront hospitality.
