KAWI Ubud’s Bagus Aribowo Brings a One Night Bar Takeover to Makan Place
Makan Place welcomes Bagus Aribowo of KAWI Ubud for an intimate cocktail evening in Legian, celebrating Balinese flavors, local liqueurs, and refined Indonesian mixology.
Makan Place is set to welcome another creative name behind the bar as Bagus Aribowo of KAWI Ubud takes over the cocktail station for one night only. Following the success of last year’s bar takeover, the evening continues Makan Place’s appreciation for crafted drinks, regional ingredients, and engaging bar side experiences.
Taking place on Sunday, 17 May 2026, from 5 PM to 9 PM, the takeover brings the spirit of KAWI Ubud into the heart of Legian. Bagus, whose work with KAWI Ubud contributed to its recognition among Indonesia’s Best 20 Bars by Tatler Asia in 2025, will present a curated selection of cocktails shaped by traditional Balinese flavors and refined bartending techniques.
For this special evening, guests can expect drinks that highlight Indonesia’s rich ingredients through a modern lens. In collaboration with Palapa, Bagus will incorporate locally crafted liqueurs including Palapa Nutmeg Liqueur and Opalm Coconut Liqueur, adding depth, aroma, and a distinct sense of place to each creation.
Among the highlights is Turmeric, a cocktail inspired by jamu, the traditional Indonesian herbal drink. Infused with lemongrass and mace, the creation reflects Bagus’s thoughtful approach to familiar local flavors, while house made sparkling coconut water and subtle notes of Indonesian confectionery bring additional character to the experience.
Designed as more than just a cocktail showcase, the evening invites guests to enjoy an intimate bar side moment where every drink comes with its own story. Guests are encouraged to engage with Bagus, discover the inspiration behind each cocktail, and experience how local ingredients can be reimagined through contemporary mixology.
The cocktails will be served alongside Makan Place’s à la carte menu, featuring Indonesian and international dishes including the restaurant’s signature Balinese Crackling Pork Knuckle. With crafted cocktails, generous flavors, live acoustic music, and a relaxed dining atmosphere, the evening offers a lively yet easygoing way to spend Sunday in Legian.
Table reservations are recommended.
