Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud Marks Kimpton’s First Arrival in Indonesia
Set along the Wos River near the cultural heart of Ubud, Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud will introduce a design-led stay shaped by Balinese creativity, contemporary wellness, and Kimpton’s signature approach to personal hospitality.
IHG Hotels & Resorts has revealed the first look at Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud, scheduled to open later this year as the first Kimpton property in Indonesia. The upcoming hotel will bring the luxury lifestyle brand’s characteristically expressive design, intuitive service, and socially minded hospitality to one of Bali’s most culturally significant destinations.
Located on Jalan Bisma, the hotel will place guests within walking distance of several of Ubud’s most recognised landmarks, including Ubud Art Market, Ubud Palace, and the historic Water Palace associated with Balinese artist and architect I Gusti Nyoman Lempad.
The setting offers a natural connection between the energy of central Ubud and the quieter rhythm of the surrounding landscape. Positioned alongside the Wos River, the property has been envisioned as a place where retreat and social connection can exist side by side.
The name Suntaya, pronounced SOON-TIE-yah, reflects this balance. Inspired by Sanskrit roots, with Suniya representing stillness and Taya expressing vitality, the name captures Ubud’s distinctive interplay between calm, creativity, and movement.
A Contemporary Expression of Balinese Rhythm
Designed by Denton Corker Marshall, Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud follows the natural contours of the hillside and riverside landscape. Its architectural concept draws inspiration from Balinese ceremonial processions, interpreting their movement, rhythm, and collective spirit through a contemporary lens.
Layered structures, shifting perspectives, and considered transitions will create an environment that feels both intimate and expressive. Throughout the property, architecture and interiors are intended to reflect a sense of flow, encouraging guests to experience the hotel gradually rather than all at once.
“Kimpton Suntaya is designed to feel open, soulful, and connected, not just to the landscape, but to the people who live and travel here,” said Austin Jones, General Manager of Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud.
Jones brings extensive experience from within the Kimpton portfolio, having contributed to nearly a dozen properties before taking the lead on the brand’s Indonesian debut.
Rooms, Suites, and Private Pool Villas
Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud will feature 101 accommodations, ranging from thoughtfully designed essential rooms to expansive pool suites and signature private pool villas.
Each accommodation will reflect the hotel’s wider design philosophy, balancing contemporary comfort with a strong connection to its natural and cultural surroundings.
Guests will also have access to several of Kimpton’s signature brand experiences. These include the complimentary “Forgot It, We’ve Got It!” programme for commonly forgotten travel essentials, Kimpton Kickstart with daily coffee, tea, and pastries, and Kimpton Social, an evening gathering created to encourage conversation between guests and the local community.
Five Distinctive Dining Experiences
The hotel’s culinary programme will bring together five individual dining destinations, each offering its own interpretation of contemporary hospitality.
Leading the collection will be Imamura Ubud, an intimate omakase experience by Michelin-starred Chef Hirofumi Imamura. The chef will also oversee Shaku by Imamura, which will present a more relaxed and playful approach to Japanese izakaya dining.
Together, the dining venues are expected to become an important part of the hotel’s social character, welcoming both travellers and Ubud residents.
A Modern Approach to Wellness
Wellness at Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud will extend beyond traditional spa experiences. The property will include a two-story fitness studio and dedicated recovery facilities centred on movement and contrast therapy.
At Sakshi Spa, treatments will draw from Balinese healing traditions, with rituals designed to support physical restoration while encouraging a renewed sense of perspective.
Rather than positioning wellness as a separate part of the stay, the hotel will weave it into the overall guest experience through movement, recovery, rest, and connection to the surrounding environment.
A New Gathering Place in Ubud
Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud is envisioned not only as a destination for international travellers but also as a gathering place for the local community.
With its riverside setting, expressive architecture, culinary programme, and lifestyle-led approach to wellness, the hotel will offer a contemporary interpretation of Ubud—one that remains connected to the destination’s cultural identity while introducing a fresh social energy.
As Kimpton makes its first entrance into Indonesia, Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud will mark a significant addition to Bali’s evolving luxury hospitality landscape.
