Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort Recognized by Nespresso for Recycling Over 41,000 Coffee Capsules

Through its ongoing partnership with Nespresso’s recycling initiative, Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort successfully recycled more than 41,000 used coffee capsules throughout 2025, reflecting the resort’s growing commitment to sustainable hospitality practices in Bali.

Sustainability continues to shape the future of hospitality in Bali, where hotels and resorts across the island are becoming increasingly conscious of their environmental footprint. As one of the world’s most visited destinations, Bali generated more than 1.2 million tons of waste in 2024 according to the National Waste Management Information System (SIPSN), placing greater importance on responsible tourism and long term environmental initiatives.

Among the properties embracing this movement is Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort, recently recognized by Nespresso for its contribution to sustainable waste management through the brand’s used coffee capsule recycling program.

The luxury beachfront resort was awarded a Sustainability Award after successfully returning more than 41,422 used coffee capsules throughout 2025, reinforcing its ongoing commitment to integrating sustainability into everyday resort operations.

The initiative forms part of Nespresso’s circular recycling approach, where used capsules collected from hospitality partners are transported to the company’s recycling facility in Jakarta. There, the aluminum is separated and repurposed into new products, while the coffee grounds are transformed into compost and returned to coffee farms in West Java to support future crops.

“We are honored to receive this recognition from Nespresso,” shared Jean-Pierre Joncas, General Manager of Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort. “It reflects our commitment to integrating sustainable practices across the resort. We believe that even simple actions, such as responsibly managing used coffee capsules, can contribute to a more sustainable future for Bali’s tourism industry.”

Beyond luxury experiences and elevated stays, the recognition reflects a growing shift within Bali’s hospitality landscape, where sustainability is becoming increasingly embedded into operational practices behind the scenes.

“Looking ahead, we aim to continue strengthening our collaboration with partners such as Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort to expand the reach of this program,” said Mark Ashlin Senior, Senior Vice President of Kanmo Group. “Our goal is to ensure that every capsule can be responsibly recycled, while contributing to a more sustainable ecosystem.”

As Bali continues to evolve as a global travel destination, initiatives such as these highlight how hospitality brands can contribute meaningfully toward a more conscious and sustainable future for the island.
